Work closely with other writers and benefit from regular feedback and critique from your peers and instructor as you work on the first act of a feature or the script for a short film. CAMPER AGES: 5 - 17

TYPE OF CAMP: Overnight/Sleepaway. Day Camp. Weekend camps and School year programs

CAMPER GENDER(S): Coed Campers.

AFFILIATION(S): YMCA

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Fine Arts/Crafts, Swimming, Waterfront/Aquatics, Sailing, Basketball, Football, Soccer, Horses/Equestrian, Team Sports, Adventure, Wilderness/Nature, and more. Teen Leadership

CAMP LOCATION: Established in 1898 and ACA accredited, Camp Onyahsa is a traditional lakefront camp that offers residential (week-long) sessions for youth ages 7-16, day camping (M-F) for youth ages 5-10, family outings, and year-round youth overnight camps.

CAMP FACILITIES: Onyahsa is a small camp, with approximately 90 overnight campers and 16 day campers per week. Campers reside in lodges, cabins, or tents depending on age. It is located directly on Lake Chautauqua and has 180 acres of land. The facilities are modern, and the main lodges are used year-round.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Celebrating its 119th summer in 2017, YMCA Camp Onyahsa offers great experience for youth, teens, families, and adults. Nestled in its own 180-acre wooded bay on Chautauqua Lake, Western New York, it offers organized summer residential and day camp sessions, off-site horseback riding, teen activities, leadership development, and much more. Traditional Camp: This program is designed for youth ages seven to fourteen and all activities are developmentally appropriate. Traditional Camp is the heart of our program, for here are made the special friendships and fond memories, which last a lifetime. It is recommended for both new and veteran campers.

Traditional Camp will be offered during all summer sessions. Campers who attend Traditional Camp will enjoy all the favorite daily activities such as Swimming, Boating, Arts, Sports, Nature, and campers' "Choice." Swimming activities include National YMCA instructional swimming and water safety classes.

Boating generally offers kayaking, sailing, wind surfing, skin diving, fishing, rowing, and canoeing. Arts includes activities such as camp crafts, painting, clay sculpture, drama, and other creative projects. Sports offers a wide range of athletic activities like Soccer, Basketball, Climbing Wall, Archery, Court Games, New Games, and many others. Nature includes Environmental Education and outdoor activities such as hiking, planting, outdoor cooking, conservation, and many others.

Horseback Riding Camp: In addition to Traditional Camp, each week will offer Horseback Riding Camp at a local equestrian center. Campers bunk with other campers in the general program, but focus on horseback riding, (see the annual schedule), for part of the day, thus they will miss some of the Traditional activities described above. This experience especially suits older and veteran campers.

Teen Camp: Each week's fourteen or fifteen year-old campers who are registered for Teen Camp will participate in and help to conduct their own more autonomous and exciting programs such as trip-camping, "extreme team", climbing, sailboat racing, and many other great activities. Teen campers will be able to exercise their independence and responsibility by helping to create their own less-routine programs. They will also complete a Camp project and assist with special events. Our mission is to promote excellence in youth development through quality camp programs that place a premium on participants; safety, health, and happiness in an active outdoor environment.

The Camp Staff is comprised of experienced teachers and college and high school students; many of whom were former Onyahsa campers. All of these highly committed and competent adults are carefully screened, chosen, and trained by the YMCA. The Camp Director has served in this role for over 20 years.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Leadership program. Campers who are fifteen years old (by the start of camp), and who register for a two-week Leader in Training (LIT) session, will have a great time taking trips and participating in more mature projects, while also learning the responsibilities required of leadership. This experience is great for older teens who want both excitement and responsibility, and who are ready to handle more independence.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Scholarships are available for most local campers and limited out of state applicants. Applicants are encouraged to apply early as camerships are awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Family camp.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Onyahsa holds weekend camps outs on the 3rd weekend of October through May. No weekend camp outs are held in June, July, August or September. Please contact office[AT]onyahsa.org for more information.

OTHER CAMP INFO: Onyahsa also provides programs throughout the school-year. Group use and rental opportunities are offered from September through early June, and charitable contributions for small or large gifts are always welcome. The camp was established in 1898, is accredited by the American Camp Association, and licensed by the NYS Department of Health. Please visit our site at Our Camp Website Link: www.onyahsa.org for more information or email office[AT]onyahsa.org

New York, New York 10001

CAMPER AGES: 12-18

TYPE OF CAMP: Day Camp. Mon-Thurs, Daily: 10am-3pm

CAMPER GENDER(S): Coed Campers.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: The Firebird Project's Summer Conservatory offers week-long theatre intensives for young artists ages 12–18 at Cre8ive Studios in Midtown Manhattan. Each week explores a different discipline — from Shakespeare and clown character work to mythology-based devising, improv, and filmmaking — all taught by professional theatre artists. Every session culminates in a performance. Now in its thirteenth year, The Firebird Project is a national-award-winning youth theater company known for producing professional-grade work with teen actors. Individual weeks are $450; multi-week bundles available. Runs June 29 through August 13, Monday–Thursday, 10am–3pm.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Theater, and more.

CAMP LOCATION: We are located at Cre8ive Studios in Chelsea, Manhattan, NYC. The location is accessible by most Subway lines, and is steps away from Penn Station.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have professional theatre rehearsal studios, water dispensers, multiple bathrooms, and some limited storage space for campers' belongings. The location is right in the heart of NYC's theatre district!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Firebird Project Summer Conservatory offers week-long theatre intensives for young artists ages 12–18 in Midtown Manhattan. Each week focuses on a different discipline — Shakespeare studio, clown and character work, mythology and folklore devising, improv, RPG-based storytelling, filmmaking, and more — all culminating in a performance at the end of the week. Classes are led by professional NYC theater artists from Firebird's resident ensemble, the Firebird Players, who bring backgrounds in classical acting, physical theatre, devised performance, and contact improv.

Founded in 2013, The Firebird Project is an NYC-based theatre production and education company and a national-award-winning youth theater. Our 2018 youth production of Our Town received four National Youth Arts Awards (Outstanding Direction, Ensemble, and two Lead Performances), and our professional ensemble's 2024 production Boy My Greatness was nominated for BroadwayWorld Awards in six categories. Our philosophy centers on treating young artists as real artists — students work with the same rigor and creative freedom as our professional company, building skills in ensemble collaboration, creative risk-taking, and finding their own artistic voice. No prior theater experience is required.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Every Thursday afternoon, each week's intensive ends with a showcase performance open to families. Parents, siblings, and friends are invited to see the work their young artists created during the week — whether that's a devised piece, a Shakespeare scene study, an improv show, or an original short film. It's a highlight of the program and gives families a window into what their kids have been building all week.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: The Firebird Project offers year-round programming for young artists ages 8–18 beyond the summer. Year-round classes include acting, improv, playwriting, filmmaking, and RPG-based storytelling workshops, all led by professional teaching artists in a supportive, collaborative environment. Firebird Youth Theater also produces full-scale professional-grade productions with teen actors throughout the year — giving students the experience of a real rehearsal and performance process.

Students also have the opportunity to work alongside Firebird's professional resident ensemble, the Firebird Players, with youth ensemble roles in the company's mainstage adult productions. Additionally, Firebird offers personalized one-on-one coaching with industry professionals for students looking to deepen their craft. For current class schedules and upcoming shows, visit thefirebirdproject.org/classes.

We use a maximum ratio of 5 children to 1 staff member. Children are in groups of 5-10 campers and generally grouped by age.

During camp your child will connect with peers and with nature, gain personal and social confidence, and make friends. Through hands on, developmentally-tailored educational activities, children gain confidence, independence, and skills. Our program provides excellent pre-academic and social preparation for children entering preschool programs, and their daily exposure to Mandarin Chinese stimulates their curiosity to language and to Mandarin Chinese, in particular.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our summer camp facilities are extensive, having constantly been built up and improved since 1926. In addition to our lake, 1.5 miles of private shoreline and over 800 acres of land, our facilities support a huge range of summer camp sports and activities, including basketball, baseball, soccer, swimming, horseback riding, and much more.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: FLC is not a co-ed camp but rather a brother/sister camp. This means that our boys camp and girls camp each have their own distinct programs, activities, campuses, and living areas. The separate girls and boys camp programs co-exist on our same FLC property, providing a unique experience for each. The brother/sister camp arrangement is very popular with families that want to send brothers and sisters to the same camp, but also want their children to have their own camp experiences. Please visit us at Our Camp Website Link: www.forestlakecamp.com

CAMP LOCATION: Adirondack sits, half-hidden, in a safe and powerful, deep forested place of astounding natural beauty surrounded on three sides by the crystal blue, drinkable waters of world famous Lake George.

ADK sits in the midst of the country’s most ancient mountain range in the Adirondack Park preserve, just a few hours’ drive from big city civilization (e.g., Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Montreal) and a day’s flight from anywhere else around the globe.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have 19 rustic open air cabins, dining hall, fencing pavilion, outdoor basketball courts, rustic amphitheater, and a pristine lake for swimming."

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: At ADK philosophy runs through every decision we make. We aspire to extraordinary things, in our traditional summer camp and in our campers, and that message is pervasive and contagious.

Simply put, a well-grounded philosophy will distinguish the great camp from a good camp. At our boys and girls camp we espouse a holistic approach to reduce the fragmentation that exists in young lives and empower our campers to be less busy, less formally structured, less overtly competitive, more committed to meaningful moments and attentive to the wonder that surrounds them.

Our objective is to present opportunities that build into a series of personal accomplishments that accumulate during the time they are with us. The goal is that they return from our summer camp for kids with bold hearts and strong character and that we will have made such a difference in their young lives.

And yet–conversely–despite our careful efforts and thoughtful organization, we strive to make all this “scaffolding” invisible. We know that beyond the incredible activities and instruction at our kids overnight camp, it’s the time in between that really matters. That it’s bunk life, mealtime goofiness, camping sleepovers and just luxuriating in the simple pleasures of summer–that imprint enduring memories. When our alums visit, our biggest complement is when they tell us that nothing’s changed.

This process is where coaches come and greet both parents and campers in the parking lot when parents pull up to drop off their children.

Our staff guide the kids onto the field/court and out of harm's way by funneling them into our gate system. Eye contact is maintained from each one of our staff members until the kids make it onto the field/court where they are grouped by age. This efficient process ensures safety. Additionally, it develops a level of trust between parent, coach, and child that ultimately leads to a fun and skill-focused camp for youth.

All buildings are climate controlled with air-conditioning and heat.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: French Woods Sports and Arts Center provides the summer of a lifetime in a safe, supportive, supervised and age appropriate environment. Campers completely determine which activities they will participate in. Children are offered a wide range of activities that include sports, arts, technology, extreme sports, circus, rock music, electronic music, dance, water sports, DJ and radio, theater, communications, magic, cooking, role playing games, and equestrian. All that and more rolled up together into one incredible summer experience!

There are six activities per day, each one hour in length; three of these periods are called majors and three are called minors.

Majors are chosen at the beginning of each session and are maintained for two weeks. Minors are chosen daily at breakfast. This lets you concentrate on the things that interest you, while giving you the chance to try something new.

Empowering our campers to feel good about themselves and their accomplishments can increase motivation to try harder, try new activities, continues to build self-confidence, and achieve self-efficacy. The more you believe in your abilities, the more inclined you are to be motivated to attempt new things and become successful in those endeavors.

With convenient locations on the Hofstra campus and at Nassau BOCES’ Brookville, Caumsett and Barry Tech locations, there is something for everyone!

Hofstra’s knowledgeable and reputable staff focuses on teaching self-respect, courage, and responsibility, while building campers’ self-esteem, self-confidence, and character. Our camps offer far more than typical child care; we help campers discover their special talents and identify their goals and dreams. Additionally, campers have access to excellent indoor and outdoor athletic and cultural facilities on Hofstra’s beautiful 240-acre campus.

We invite you to learn more about our American Camp Association-accredited summer camps, tour the facilities, and meet with our dedicated staff. We look forward to meeting you and satisfying your family’s summer camp needs.

If you have any questions, please call us at 516-463-CAMP.
